Systemic Labor Duplication & Fraudulent Billing — Verify Every Invoice
I brought my truck to Gold Wing Truck Repair for major repairs (Invoices #19879 and #19995), and my experience revealed deeply deceptive and predatory business practices. After meticulously cross-referencing my shop invoices with actual vendor counter receipts, I uncovered undeniable financial and mechanical discrepancies. Exorbitant Clutch & Transmission Charges: On Invoice #19879, I was charged a staggering $5,748.07 for a clutch replacement, a crank seal, and a transmission shaft.Labor Duplication Fraud: Embedded within that massive transmission bill was an unauthorized 6-hour labor charge ($720.00) specifically for a 'transmission shaft replacement'. Any qualified heavy-duty mechanic knows that this shaft is already completely exposed and accessible during a standard clutch replacement, making this a fraudulent, overlapping labor charge.Stacked Steering Charges & Inflated Parts: On Invoice #19995, they charged $1,150.00 in labor for a kingpin job, and then stacked an extra $870.00 for the parts and labor of just 2 bearings and 2 seals. Vendor counter records from JX Truck Center prove they only paid $302.16 total for those exact parts.I have contacted five local shops in the area to verify standard labor practices for this repair. All five confirmed that because replacing the wheel bearings and seals occurs during the kingpin job—utilizing the exact same disassembly and assembly steps—there is no extra labor required or charged for the bearings and seals labor .
Unreasonable Shop Supply Fees: On top of the inflated parts and labor, they stacked massive, unjustified shop supply fees: over $320.00 on the clutch invoice and $147.52 on the steering invoice.Unilateral Parts Substitution & False Warranties: Without ever asking my permission or offering a choice, they installed budget-friendly, house-brand Alltrux parts purchased from Peterbilt. Meanwhile, Invoice #19995 misleadingly claimed the components were 'warranted by factory'. Punitive Processing Fees: When settling bills, they attempted to force an excessive 6% fee just for using a credit card to dodge paper trails.Padding invoices with overlapping labor, inflating parts ,tacking on hundreds of dollars in arbitrary supply fees, substituting cheap house-brand parts without consent, and squeezing customers with hidden card fees is entirely unacceptable. I have escalated this documentation and will file a formal complaint with the Illinois Attorney General. Commercial truck operators, check your invoices , check labor cost and compare them directly to supplier receipts before paying.
